Roger Pulvers is a novelist, playwright and theater director who has published 16 books in Japanese and English. He was assistant director of the 1983 film Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence. His most recent work is a translation of Night on the Milky Way Train, published in Tokyo in 1996 by Chikuma Sbobo. All translations in this article are by the author.
